Fukushima Diary : 1 m3 of contaminated water leaked again / “Did someone make a hole on the tank for malicious purpose again ?”
Posted by Mochizuki on April 13th, 2014 1m3 of contaminated water leaked from another contaminated water tank. Tepco announced the leakage has already been stopped because all the water has gone out. It was a 1m3 plastic tank beside 1,000m3 class of tanks. It is not explained why the tank was left there. A sub-contract worker found the tank was empty in the morning of 4/13/2014. They found a damage on the lower part of the tank. The stocked 1m3 of contaminated water is assumed to have leaked out by then. Tepco reports Cs-134/137 density in the leaked water was 1,640,000 Bq/m3, All β nuclide density was 1,400,000 Bq/m3. Tepco states Sr-90 density was only 11,000 Bq/m3 based on their “simplified measurement”. The official reading hasn’t been published yet. They also report the leaked water didn’t flow to the sea, but there is a possibility that the leaked water was absorbed by the ground. This February, 100m3 of contaminated water overflowed and it’s suspected that someone operated the valves incorrectly for malicious purpose. (cf, [100m3 overflow] No information obtained about a potential suspect / Tepco practically give up investigation )
The cause of that this 1m3 plastic tank was damaged hasn’t been announced.
