KOB : WIPP workers to help investigate radiation leak Updated: 03/12/2014 1:38 PM | Created: 03/12/2014 1:36 PM By: Elizabeth Reed, KOB.com Employees at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant near Carlsbad will soon be able to get back to work. The plant closed last month after two incidents: an underground truck fire and a radiation leak. Beginning this weekend, WIPP officials say workers will undergo training on how to help during the investigation and recovery process. A plan just approved by the federal government will let WIPP use its own workers to investigate what caused the radiation leak. They will also implement changes at the plant once the investigation is over. WIPP also announced that a filtration system worked properly during that radiation leak. The plant says new data shows it was 99 percent effective in capturing radiation. The results are consistent with those recorded by an independent monitoring group. There is still no timeline for when WIPP will reopen. www.kob.com/article/stories/S3359397.shtml#.UyHgAbSa-Xy
